The Outlaws returned to Studham hoping to re create the victory of only a few weeks ago.
Jo and his band of teenage kids (anyone over 25 feels very old in this team) lost the toss and the Outlaws would field first.
Opening the bowling was Euan and Syed. Euan coming down his favourite hill struck in his first over with Wes taking a simple catch in the slips. The same two combined a few overs later for an identical dismissal with Syed joined the party this time Guy taking the catch (after a few juggles). First change saw the arrival of Guy and Ollie (looking like two members of the boy band five it must be said), then came an “I was there moment” as Wes showed that he is actually human after all as he dropped not one but TWO catches off Ollie in the slips (there may have been a slight deflection off Toms gloves) but by Wes’s high standards he will count them as a drop. Ollie so unlucky as he bowled a fantastic spell. He did eventually get his reward as Jamie (again a few more juggles) held onto a catch, while at the other end the Ginger love island star in the making was beating the bat and keeping the runs down. Another member of the big band five (Tom) then showed great glove work to pick up a stumping off Ollie to leave Studham 5 down with only 62 on the board. Jamie then entered proceedings (definitely too old to be in five) and bowled his spell but sadly wicketless. It was left to Adam (more like five guys) and Euan to finish things off, as Adam grabbed his wicket thanks to well taken catch by Charlie, before Euan completed things with his third wicket thanks to another Guy catch. Euan the pick of the bowlers taking 3-15 from his 4.
Studham 112-7 off 20 overs
A cracking bowling/fielding performance, especially considering they knocked up 144 against us last time.
Opening up for the outlaws was top flamingo Wes and lighting hands Tom. Sadly Tom departed early without scoring which brought Tick Tock boy wonder Charlie out to join his dad and despite Charlie’s best efforts to try and run Wes out the two then set about building a partnership. Wes who very unlike him took a good 8 balls to see himself in before he clearly realised the time and decided to get on with things as love island was about to start. What followed was as usual simply a joy to behold as the ball sailed the full 360 degrees from the wicket with most times it clearing the rope on the full. A cheeky ramp/scoop off a free hit a personal favourite from the crowd of Wes’s innings. Charlie then miss timed a pull and was caught, but had put on a 67 run partnership with his dad. This brought skipper Jo to the crease to finish things off with Wes. The two of them clearly had a chat in the middle about who could hit the bigger six, as Jo came out victorious as one nearly cleared the trees at Studham for an almighty six. These two finishing things off with 5 overs to spare, Jo ending 25 not out.
Outlaws 117-2 off 15 overs.
Man of the match - Wes for his 74 runs off only 42 balls, with some incredible hitting (and not a Tick Tock in sight)
A very professional performance and despite a few drops the standard in the field is fantastically high. The outlaws just need to keep producing this if they want to make it to finals day.
Huge thanks to the supporting fans who worked on their tans - Edwins Clan, Harris Clan (Inc Chops shocking socks), Braddon Clan, Chris M, Pumps, Oz, Neil and Phil.
Special mention to Phil Palmer for scoring, surely the best scorer in the league ?
**For those of you wondering who makes it into the boy band five (Charlie, Euan, Ollie, Tom and Guy)
Next up a home match vs Great Gaddesden
