Eaton Bray's under 15's swaggered their way to Aspley Guise on Thursday night in an attempt to extend their winning streak.
On a glorious summer's evening, the Bray fielded first and set about their business. With Ollie "the whippet" Harris (2-8) and Shamindra "the whisperer" Hullegalle (0-7) backed up by some good intent in the field, the start was a good one. Continuing the good work in the early stages, came Alfie "buckets" Scott (1-7) and Faizan "the natural" Shakoor (0-4) and Euan "the smiler" Palmer (1-5) to break the back of a spirited Aspley Guise batting lineup. With the platform for a good performance laid early, the Bray drifted through the middle of the innings in the field. However, the bowling of Ellie "the boss" Durant (0-13), Harry "mighty" Mac (1-8), Ben "boom boom" Cullen (1-5) and Jake "precision" Clarke (1-11) ensured the total didn't get out of hand. The wicketkeeper's Thomas "gloves" Maynard and Fred "mind the windows" Flack, both tried to keep the level high, taking a catch each and keeping byes to a minimum. Aspley Guise went to their biscuits and cordial with a total of 8 for 93 off their 20 overs.
With their pockets full of penguins, Eaton Bray set about the chase with purpose. With some impressive bowling and a vocal fielding performance, Aspley Guise ensured that the Bray would have to work hard for the points. Losing their skipper Ben (3) for a rare low score, and Faizan (1) shortly after, leaving Euan (30*) and Freydo (12) with some rebuilding work to do. On a pitch that offered assistance for the bowlers throughout, it was a rebuilding job well done, through positive intent and good aggressive running between wickets. When Freydo was dismissed and Euan was retired, Thomas (13*) was joined by Ellie (2*) to continue the positive intent and ensure there were no panic stations visited on their way over the line. Reaching the target, on a tough pitch with more than 4 overs to spare and only 3 wickets down was a performance not to be underestimated, and shows how far this team has come.
Onto next week when the team will hope to relieve disappointment of watching their team get knocked out of the world cup with another good performance at home against 2nd placed Lutonians.
