The under 15s made the trek across Bedfordshire to play Langford on Thursday night hoping to continue their winning streak. After winning the toss and choosing to bat first, captain Ben Cullen (31*) set about the task with his usual gusto. Joined at top of the order by Ollie Harris (11) on a slow low pitch and an outfield that spanned from here to kingdom come, they decided that aggressive running between wickets was the order of the day. After Ollie's dismissal and Ben's retirement, the scoreboard was kept ticking over at around 6 an over by the Eaton Bray batsmen. Some really good aggressive running and towards the end by Harry Mac (11) and Charlie Hosking (24*) ensured that Langford would need 116 runs to win. This was a really good team effort with the bat, with only 4 boundaries and 12 wides in the total showing how well everyone ran between the wickets.
The defence started with a wicket in the first over from Charlie, and from there the chase was never really on. Eaton Bray produced a clinical bowling and fielding display. Tight, fast bowling from Ollie, Faizan Shakoor, Alfie Scott and Euan Palmer was well foiled by the medium pace of Jake Clarke and Ellie Durant. Harry and Ben wrapped up the innings with some late wickets.
Special mention to returning wicketkeeper Thomas Maynard who shared bowling and keeping duties with Fred Flack. Taking a wicket with the last ball he bowled before running off to put his keeping gear on and returning to the field to take a stumping on his first ball back.
Thanks to all the players, parents, uncles and godparents who made the trip, and special thanks to Phil for scoring and Tony for the great photos. Next week we are away to Aspley Guise looking to continue the good form.
