The Three Musketeers!

The Three Musketeers!

The Three Musketeers!

Eaton Bray 2’s were looking to make it five wins on the bounce as they took on Wolverton at the Rye.

With the sun beating down and the temporary water supply still in action it was smiles all round. However these smiles were very different ones as the starting eleven was much changed due to some players (Not Slackers I might add) opting to visit Trent Bridge.

However confidence in this squad is high and even when skipper Emerson lost the toss, he still got his choice as EB would field first.

Opening the bowling would be Dave himself (looking like Prince Harry with his new haircut) and none other than the next contestant for Love Island surely (Jamie)!
As these two always do they bowl with accuracy and swing, and for my mind are probably the best opening pair certainly in our division if not higher. As Dave removed the first batter clean bowling him, it was a case of how long for Jamie as he beat the bat on a stupid number of occasions. First change saw young Hamish (Socks & Sliders King) come down the hill and he instantly got his wickets, clean bowling both batsmen including a gem of a slower ball. While at the other end Jamie toiled and toiled but today was just not going to be his day. Wolverton 61-3. Syed (Quietest Player Of The Team) then came on and was joined by Ian (Alan Titchmarsh) the two Wolverton batsmen then started to attack the bowling and built a partnership. Their 54 run partnership was eventually broken by Syed for an lbw. When Syed then got another, with a catch from Adam Wolverton had climbed to 119-5. Dave then returned this time up the hill, and was joined by Adam (The Loudest Player Of The Team) up the hill. What happened next was the most controversial moment certainly from a fine’s perspective you're likely to see all season. As Dave found a leaning edge the ball sailed over the Batsmen and was heading directly into Glen’s gloves (Glen not having to move a millimetre) then out of nowhere with the ball about 2 inches from hitting the gloves DK’s hands reach over from first slip to take the catch. In the end it was a catch and DK was duly fined for his efforts. Dave then grabbed his third with an LBW and when Dave removed the last two batsmen clean bowling them both he ended with a very well deserved 5-17. A great example to the young kids playing on how to bowl and more importantly how to be consistent.

Wolverton ended 144 all out.

The feeling at half time was they got few more runs than they should of got, but still a good score to chase.

Opening the batting was Glen and young Callum (what looked like a father and son partnership) Young Callum on his debut did excellent with the bat and provided good support to Glen. The young man sadly departed but I am sure we will see allot of him in the future. This brought DK (The Thief) to the crease to support, or still argue his catch with Glen. These two thou put their differences aside and went on the attack out against the Wolverton bowlers.
Both showing there experience at finding the gaps and taking their time to knock offs the runs. The youngest member of the team Owen, who was due in next could only watch and admire how these two used their experience to dominate the bowlers. The only issue they faced was from there own team mate Sri who sadly wasn’t needed with bat or ball did manage to jump in front of a certain 4 from DK as the ball hit him at square leg (and DK was on 46 at the time)
It didn’t prove costly as DK brought up yet another 50, which means his average is a staggering 224! As Glenn then made sure he completed his 50 the two brought up a partnership of 133 to ensure EB made it another comprehensive victory.

Eaton Bray 145-1 off 28 Overs

Must mention a massive thanks to Jaco for umpiring the whole game a huge help and lovely to see him out on the field - Hopefully not long before he will be out there in his whites.

A 9 wicket victory and a hard choice for the skipper for man of the match - Who in the end decided it should be share between Dave, Glenn and DK. A great effort from all three men.

A much smaller crowd with so many people away but thanks to - Ciara and Freddie, Lee, Roberston Clan, Bennet Clan (and a hobbling Stefan) Callum and Owen's Parents.

Next up an away match against Sher-E-Punjab
