Another hot and sunny Saturday - the skipper won the toss and elected to bat, hoping for a repeat of last week, however this wasn’t to be.
Regular wickets fell, owing to Ley Hills openers who bowled great areas and gave barely any freebies. Whilst Norris, Owen and Azeem fell for single figures, self proclaimed MOM Lee Gauntlett went about his business at the other end, scoring an innings high 19. After the MOM departed, Rich and Liam dug in well to see if the majority of the openers spells.
After rich was run out from a direct hit from the boundary, and a flurry of middle order wickets fell, it was left to the Edwins duo and Dave to try and secure some much needed runs. The tail wagged slightly much to I’m sure everyone’s surprise, and EB ended up 83 ao on a pitch that deserved a lot more runs.
At the half way stage, the talk from EB was this would be a great one to win, with Azeem saying we were 20 over par. Was this to be the case?
The ginger duo started for us again, and picked up from last week. Dave with his usual consistency and guy bowling with good pace. Guy made the first 2 breakthroughs, bowling the dangerous opener and Rich completing a good catch in the gully after a dolly of a drop from the skipper.
Aaron was then introduced in place of Dave, fresh from 4fer last week. Bowling with great confidence, Aaron got the ball rolling, bowling the other opener, and challenging the incoming batsmen. The skipper then came into the attack, keeping the pressure on LeyHill. Aaron then struck twice in 2 balls for the second time this season, and all of a sudden the win was really on.
Edwins then struck twice to leave Ley Hill 8 down with 20 still to get. After a few lusty blows from Ley Hills skipper, the game was in the balance. Aaron completed his 5fer, bowling the number 9 and Edwins completed the win, bowling the skipper. Ley Hill all out for 76
A great one to win, and leaves us in a great position nearing the half way point of the season.
